My web application starts with a Google Earth Plugin displaying a
national park in Budapest. I want to create a button that when user
presses it, the topology of the scene
(I mean the terrain information with the heights of the ground etc )
will be saved in an XML file. Any ideas how? Your help is very much
appreciated.

Hi,

Whilst it is technically possible to extract terrain and image data
from the plug-in the terms of service disallow it.
See section 10.6 http://code.google.com/apis/maps/terms.html
Also, it should be noted that the terrain data itself is copyrighted
material.

Ideally you should look at commercial or freely available
alternatives.
Here are a number of free options.

NASA's Global Digital Elevation 30mx30m resolution data (from
stereoscopic thermal imagery):

WebGIS 30mx30m resolution data:
http://www.webgis.com/terr_world.html

USGS Seamless Server 10mx10m resolution data (International Data):

Hope that helps.
