Hi,

I saw this university's website http://planetred.unl.edu/ and noticed
that I did not have the Google Earth plugin installed. Is there a way
to use the Google Earth API without the plugin? I want to try and
avoid installing the Google Earth plugin. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

That site uses a different technogy - Free Earth from Poly9 - which is
a Flash based embeddable globe. It could be enough for some
applications and they say there is more in the pipeline but as at now
it's relatively basic in what is available within the API and is
reported to be slower and without as much hi-res imagery. (No models
either amongst other things).

To use Google Earth within a browser you have to use the Plugin.

In addition to what Nymor said, now when you install Google Earth the
plugin is installed by default. So as long as the user has the
current version of Google Earth (which, really, they should
considering all the speed improvements they made), the plugin will be
available. Now if you want them to not even have to install Google
Earth, you're definitely asking for way too much. :D
