My suggestion would be going for an alternative to Google Desktop. I
found Lookeen ([link]) as a great search tool for Outlook.
You can add several .pst files to be included in the index/search and
so have instant access to them as well. If you can't get GD to run it
might be worth a try. Lookeen btw can also be used as a desktop search

Thunderbird 3.0 won't index

I upgraded from TB 2.0 to 3.0 and GD started showing problems.

First I noticed that the email seach results pages in the browser no
longer said "View in Thunderbird" but instead said "Open in
Mozilla" (?). I don't have mozilla, only TB and Firefox.

A work around for the problem. When you type the query in GD, if you
do not have chrome browser open, then the results do not show. You
just see chrome with a blank tab. But if you have 'open chrome
browser' and you type a query in GD then the result will show in a new
tab in chrome.

Sidebar is gone!

My Sidebar just disappeared! It was on my computer when I went to bed.
I left the computer on. Now it's gone. Options show it enabled. I
tried turning it off "None" and back on but nothing. If I select
"None", then go back in and select "Sidebar", I will get a flashing
hourglass next to my cursor. It will flash on and off about ten times

google weather gadget is crap

the Google Weather gadget is a piece of crap. For 2 years I have put
up with the wrong temperature readings. For instance in Austin TX it
shows 8 degrees when in fact it is 33. In Buffalo NY it shows 37 when
it is really 8. Please fix it!

Can't add Google Calendar to desktop sidebar

I have the latest version of Google Desktop (5.9) installed and have
successfully added several gadgets.

But, when I try to install the Google Calendar gadget, I get an error
message saying that I have to have Desktop 4 or higher installed...
which I do.

If I try to add any other calendar, I get an error message saying

I am a very long time user and admirer of google desktop. Can't live
without it.

I always type my search item in the deskbar and hit Enter and the
Desktop search results appear. All of a sudden, the same action goes
to Web search instead of Desktop Search.

Well, I have this problem too. Very annoying. Trying to set Google
Desktop as the default search engine (mentioned in

The Omnipage destop search indexer plugin also offers to index pdfs.

You could give it a try.

(Some have found it hard to find the download link - it's still
available from Nuance, reference in this forum).
