Subject: Sidebar disappears/flickers on secondary monitor, but gadgets don't.
I have a dual monitor setup. I like to have the sidebar docked to my
SECONDARY monitor, so that I can always see my gadgets even when I
need to use my entire primary display.

The problem is if I have the sidebar anywhere on the secondary monitor
(docked left, right, or anywhere in between) and maximize ANY window
(even just a windows explorer window with nothing else running) the
sidebar will flicker and then disappear. It will start flickering if I
move the mouse over it again.

If I have the sidebar on my PRIMARY display and maximize a window on
the secondary monitor (situation reversed) this does not occur!!!

Also, gadgets pulled out of the sidebar will sit fine by themselves
and do not encounter this problem when on the secondary display.

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and this is driving me crazy!

I am having this same exact problem, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.
It is very frustrating.

I am having the same problem. Using XP SP3. I can only run Google
Sidebar on primary monitor - if on secondary monitor it flickers.

I don't know whether this is linked, but I have noticed also that the
Google Search window in Outlook has disappeared.

The problem arose after I updgraded to latest version of GD.

Exactly the same problem here, running XP 64 with SP3. Every now and
then the Sidebar is flickering. Might be whilst indexing? It is very
very annoying.

Ditto for me too ... I had reported this in another thread but I
thought I would add my voice to this thread as well ... I am running a
(3) monitor setup in XP Pro SP3 using dual nVidia 8800 cards and GD is
parked on the extreme left edge of the left monitor ... for me it
flickers primarily with (2) programs and yes, it only started doing
after I upgraded to the latest version of GD ... which is Google
Desktop 5.9.0909.30391-en-pb ... does anyone know if they have
released anything newer? And a second question ... does anyone know
how to "downgrade" to an earlier version if this annoying flicker
continues?

I'll add another vote on this problem. Only just started this morning
11/3/2009, yesterday the Sidebar was fine. I'm running Windows XP Home
SP3 on a P4 2.4Ghz with 2Gb of ram. I have 2 monitors running off a
card and a 3rd monitor which is a Mimo USB monitor (UM-710) that I've
been running the sidebar in for months with no problems.

I did apply a Microsoft update either on 11/2 or 10/30 but it did not
request a reboot. We lost power at the office last night so the
machine was rebooted and only then did it show the issue. So maybe
that's another piece.

Once the sidebar flickers out, if I click where it should be, it does
immediately reappear. Anytime I change focus to a different window on
one of the other monitors, the sidebar will flash again. If I bring
focus back to the Mimo (where the sidebar is docked), the sidebar
locks back in as normal and seems to stay as long as focus is in that
screen.
It also only affects the sidebar itself. If I undock the gadgets and
use them by themselves, they are stable - even when the sidebar itself
flashes and disappears.

this is the same here. please fix this, I check back daily. Its not
like this started yesterday, the 1st post is from Sept 30. I saw it
originally around that time..I dont think this is hard to recreate. I
mean I have two separate machines with 2 monitors, exactly the same on
both. both machines have nvidia powered graphics cards with recent
drivers. One machine is vista and one is windows 7.

I'm still suffering from this problem and have become so exasperated
with it that I have now removed Google Desktop completely, and started
to install Yahoo Widgets to replace it. This is not what I have come
to expect from Google - normally their software is seamlessly
reliable, and the occasional glitches in new releases are fixed
immediately.

PS - I'd have thought Google could at least acknowledge the problem in
their "known issues" pages, and let us know whether they are working
on a fix. BAD SHOW GOOGLE!!

I'm also having this very same issue.   The sidebar flickers when
docked anywhere on the second monitor, when I click on anything else.
It comes back when I click on the space where it should be viewable.
I'm running WinXP SP3.

Hi,

If you search for the older version of Google Desktop, you can find it
here. (from 1.0 to 5.9)

Unfortunately all previous versions are incompatible with 64 bit
operating systems, get on this Google!

I tried an older version but am still having the same problem. I have
noticed though that its fine untill I click on my browser in the main
window. Its Firefox 3.5.5 and as soon as I click any outside of
Firefox the sidebar stays. Have to try an older version of Firefox I
guess

pipergeorge, I thought it was firefox for me as well, but it flickers
whenever I click or focus on any maximized window on my main monitor.
It is not just Firefox.

Did some more playing last night and I agree, it wasn't just Firefox.
Just about any other window does it.

Starting to get annoying, I really like Google stuff but I've shut it
off now

what really is amazing here is how easy this is to reproduce. just
download the most recent version, get a second monitor, dock the bar
over there (where most people with 2nd monitor would put it) and
maximize anything on the main monitor, voila! disappearing sidebar,
its like magic!

I also have the problem on Win7 64bit. I wonder why Google is not even
showing any interest in solving this problem or posting it in FAQ
since it appears for quite a few users.

I think I will switch back to win-gadgets, they at least stay..
