If someone would like to work with us to make this into a feature for Google Desktop we would love to hear your ideas on what would be the best way for this particular feature. People all over the world really love this as there are no issues with localization. Even if you just have some comments on how to improve this we would love to hear from you. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
that looks great! I'd love to work on something like this, but i don't know if i'll be free anytime soon :S Anyway, there are some thoughts i'd like to share:
- for example, you can take a closer look at the Ticker for Trekkers gadget: http://desktop.google.com/plugins/i/trekker.html?hl=en or at the Cricket gadgets: http://desktop.google.com/plugins/i/cwc_cricket_images_news.html?hl=en http://desktop.google.com/plugins/i/cwc_cricket_videos.html?hl=en since they're open-source and you can see how everything works. Especially how they refine the searches. That's where i find your feature to be very helpful to a user + i can think of an improvement: from what i've seen, the user chooses the exact word which is added or 'subtracted' :-) by clicking on it. Therefore he has to see where it is first, but what if your gadget could scan the results and compile a list of relevant keywords that may be added or eliminated. That way, you can refine a search a lot faster, without even having to read the result. I don't know how easy this is to do for a FF extension (this is why i'm suggesting it now, you might have thought of it already) but you can process these words relatively easy in the GD API, since you have a lot of (UI) controls specialized for lists of information (feeds, news, etc.), one of them being the Content Area: http://desktop.google.com/dev/gadget_apiref.html#contentarea
- anyway, the best place to start if you want to find out about all your possibilities (including how to write a gadget) would be here: http://desktop.google.com/developer.html
I hope that was useful,
Thanks, Teo.

Thanks for all the good advice and links. Actually, we did consider the idea you suggested a while back and we are planning to do that, but unfortunately we don't have enough developers (or money) to work out all the various ways we can improve this. If anyone out there thinks this is a cool project and wants to work with us to really make the most of it we would love to hear from you. Obviously we couldn't offer cash at the moment, but we could certainly offer some kind of stake in all of this. I have filed this with the US Patent and Trademark Office, so you never know Google might want to buy it one day. No promises though.

The Internet Explorer version is now available on our site. It works for XP and previous, a Vista version is currently under construction. http://www.xippee.com
