You can get image results for your CSE if you use the AJAX API (the
"overlay" option in the CSE control panel) to display your results.
There's lots more info about the AJAX API at
http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxsearch/documentation/, as well as a
dedicated help group:
It's a little hacky, but you can use the API to specify a site:
operator for image search results. Since it sounds like loupiote wants
to search over the images on his site, I think this will work for him.
Check out how it's implemented in this CSE result page (click the tab
that reads "RP ONLINE-Bilder " to see the image results):
So, omr is totally right about not being able to restrict image
results to a CSE - thanks omr, I can always rely on you to help
clarify! But you can restrict image results to a particular site. Hope
that helps.

but this would require that all my pages are in the google image
index, right?
googlebot-image has been crawling all the photos on my website for
more than 2 months, and i still do not see a single of my photos in
google-image (while a large number of them are in the MSFT live.com
image index and yahoo image).
not sure why google is not indexing them while the other major search
engine do. maybe google is just very slow at indexing images?
in any case, if i see my image popping-up in the google-index image,
i'll try to hack a CSE search with images.
