New fields (dates, URLs, people) in Contacts?

According to this post on Google Operating System:

there are "some new fields: website, birthday, date (anniversary), and
related person (spouse, domestic partners, assistant)".

I don't see those in either my Google or Google Apps contacts yet, but
I imagine they're coming. When they do, will they be immediately
supported by the API?

Hi Charlie,

The work for the these new fields is almost complete for both UI and
API, we will post in the group as soon as it is available.
