Subject: What do you do if the project owner dies?
A friend of my who runs a project on Google Code sadly passed away a
few months back.

Unfortunately nobody has dealt with his project.

I would like to take over the project in his memory, but I don't know
who is best to speak to.

If somebody could kindly get back to me on this, I would be grateful.

Thanks.

This is also the case for me. I am happy/happier to discuss this off list.
Who do I need to speak to and what is the process?
Many thanks to the Google Team (and to HM2K for raising the issue).

I too would prefer to discuss it in private, but I would like to know the
procedure.

Thanks.

I have received nothing back from Google on this. This is very disappointing
of Google. Yet again.

I wish I could have sorted this out prior to his death, but unfortunately I
don't have that privileged.

Any assistance would be useful.

Thanks.

Keep cool, no need to get all snippy. We haven't forgotten you.
Believe it or not, it's just that nobody has asked us what you did
before, so we've had to discuss it. Expect email within a couple of
hours, once I'm back from my dinner.

Thanks. Nobody likes being ignored.

I'm surprised this hasn't been asked before and that there isn't a protocol
in place for this kind of eventuality.

I look forward to your reply, enjoy your dinner. Thanks again.

You weren't being ignored, apologies if it looked that way. It just
didn't make much sense babbling on publicly until we had worked out
what to say.

It may be surprising, but project owners dying is pretty far down the
list of support requests. As far as I know, you're the first. And to
be honest, it wasn't very high on our "Things to plan for" list
either, compared to spam, DoS attacks, improving the quality of
service, etc.

Given infinite manpower, I'm sure we'd have had a contingency plan all
ready to go. Reality sucks.

Thanks for your patience.

Dave

I'm sure everyone here appreciates the work that you and the Google
Code team
put into this wonderful Google project. I see that the question was
posed
on a Friday, and you followed up on Monday. Thank you for your
responsiveness.

IP-transfer is a difficult/complicated process. Best wishes for your
team in developing
a protocol for continued development of projects.

All of that said, this is an emotional thread, and I hope we can
ratchet up our
sensitivity toward your team, and toward your users.
