I recently tried to create a project named `synthesis' on Google Code
Hosting. Unfortunately, I was informed that because a project of the
same name existed on SourceForge, I could not register it with Google
Code either. I was also told that the owner of said project would be
emailed to ask whether he would approve or deny my request, using his
SF address.
Well, I checked the project on SourceForge, and there appears to have
been no activity whatsoever in six years, which leads me to believe it
has been abandoned. Furthermore, I made an effort to contact the owner
directly, to ask for his permission, using both the SF address as well
as his personal address, however, both messages immediately bounced,
saying those accounts don't exist anymore.
So it seems that sadly, this person may have fallen off the face of
the Earth. Given these extenuating circumstances, and given that the
existing project has long been abandoned, would it be possible for me
to be able to use the name on Google's service for my own (unrelated)
project?
