Same Error .. Error code = 0x80042197 .. also if the location where
the installer applet saves the temporary setup files is revealed, will
be helpful. It might help the setup to be copied from a computer not
behind proxy.

i also get the same problem. because of proxy auth. (lucky i have
another non auth proxy i can use)
Also why does chrome use IE proxy setting.. this is VERY VERY VERY
annoying. because msn using it as well. but the problem is i need
one proxy for msn and a different proxy for google chrome. (dont ask)
also when using auth proxy within google chrome there is major
problems. wont load pages only seems to load cached information.

I'm behind a proxy at work too. I get the following error code:
0x80072efd. Searching the web for this error code hints at windows
update problems which is bizarre. Please note at work we don't have
access to the windows update site either.

If installation is not working (even to download the installer) go to
Event Viewer > Application (My Computer > right click > Manage >System
Tools).
There is an Error event occured today from Source: Google Update.
Double Click it.
In Description appears an URL: http://cache.pack.google.com/chrome/install/149.27/chrome_installer.exe (please do the steps before to get the correct one)
Use this to download the installer.

same issue here (company proxy), proxy auth request doesn't come up.
The full installer worked, but the browser itself still has problems
(I have to post this with FF, because Chrome wouldn't let me correctly
sign on to google groups). Also nearly every image is only displayed
partly, i.e. only the upper 1/4 is visible.
This looks like too fast a shot by google, though for home
environments it seems to work better. Work on the proxy issues, don't
use Windows settings for it, and release a full installer. Oh, and I
would love a "home" button ;)
(btw, Gears has exactly the same installer issue with proxys)
I have almost the same issues as Lars_oeschey reported!
I have to use a http/https Proxy (Bluecoat) and a lot of things don't
work with Chrome or at least don't work correctly.
- First of all, Installation was no problem
- When starting Chrome and loading a site, i am forced to authenticate
against the Proxy although Windows credentials can be used. There is
no need to do this using IE or FF.
- I can't access Google Mail! Not at all! The page seems to be loading
but the window stays completly empty.
- Lot of sites doesn't load complete, or need to be reloaded several
times
- Sometimes pictures are loaded only partly (eg Chrome Symbol on the
Chrome support site)
- when initiating searching within the url Address Box, (google.de)
searching often leeds to a plain white browser window
I am also facing the same problem (proxy authentication). Why dont
google provide a standalone installer. They claims that it is
opensource so atleast they can do that.
CHrome (and the installer) dont' seem to be able to properly parse the
auto config script we use. I can connect to the internet using IE, but
not using Chrome. Disconnect my VPN and try adn connect over my ADSL
(i.e. don't need the proxy any more) and it works. I'm on Vista SP1.

guys i cant seem to browse using the chrome.. i check the event logs
and here is the message i get....
is this something to do with what you guys were discussing ?
The description for Event ID ( 2 ) in Source ( Chrome ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this
description; see Help and Support for details. The following
information is part of the event: Chrome. Crash uploaded.
Id=74ac95d50f18a78.

Thanks for the URL as it gives this link which (CURRENTLY !)
appears to do what we Username/Password proxy victims need.
I just downloaded OK but now (grr) I "unfortunately have to close
Firefox" so that the settings can be copied.
