Install completes successfully.  However, whenever I attempt to run
Chrome I get
"Chrome.exe - Application Error"
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK
to terminate the application."

I click 'OK' - and oddly the application does not terminate - however
I cannot navigate anywhere with Chrome - instead i get the 'Aw, Snap!
Something went wrong..." error.

If I try to enter a URL - I get the 0xc0000005 error again - and the
cycle repeats.

____________

The Machine is Vista 32 (Ultimate)
I have turned off DEP
I have re-installed multiple times, and restarted.
I have killed Symantec Antivirus as well.

Ideas?

Guys - The problem is Symantec Endpoint Client.
You need to remove the Application & Device Control from the
installation of this product - i.e Add/Remove programs - click on
Modify
and unselect it. works for me on XP SP3 in Parallels inside my OS
X ;-)

Chrome may be conflicting with EP, but it is Chrome that requires the
fix. EP is a proven, stable application. Let's get a Chrome fix for
this.

Uninstalling your AV is a bad idea, just wait for them to release a
patched up version, shouldn't take long. ;)

For some reason Chrome is seen as making and Unauthorized NT call.  I
wonder what "naughty" things it is trying to do?

Log from my SEP client:

9/2/2008 4:18:03 PM     15      Block   Production      Unauthorized NT call rejected
by protection driver.   System  Built-in rule   1820    chrome.exe

This is frightening.

I can't believe that people are actively considering removing their
Anti-Virus protection to get a beta browser to work.

On top of that the browser executable sets in the user profile
WTF?????

C:\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data
is not the place for installs. A cursory read of any Microsoft
application development site could have revealed that. What are Google
smoking??????

Yes, it is unbelievable.  How could they have never tested using one
of the most popular anti-virus products on the market?  How could they
not know to put the exe in the Program Files directory?  Was this done
part time by a bunch of drunk college developers?  I think I'll stick
with FireFox and let them work the bugs out of Chrome for a year or
two.

Turning off this feature in SEP doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
Crippling the AV software just so you can make a new browser work
seems like a bad trade off.  I'm sure that Google will have a patch
for this soon.  I think I'll just wait.

Ben,

Just wanted to add that I too was getting this error that Chrome
failed to initialize, I read this forum and removed my Symantec
Endpoint Protection Version 11 to test and see if it was infact the
problem, After the uninstall and a reboot, Chrome fired right up with
out having to reinstall. I see potential in the web browser and I hope
you can fix this soon.

If you faced “The application failed to initialize properly
(0xc0000005).Click on OK to terminate the application.” error with
google chrome and you are using symantec, then you could try the
following steps:

Back up the registry on an affected system
Open the registry on the Agent system by entering regedit from a run
prompt
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
\SysPlant
Open the Start DWORD
Change the value to 4 to disable the drivers
Reboot the system to commit the changes

Just run Chrome with the  "–no-sandbox" option.  Do NOT turn off your
antivirus.
