If a customer places an order with a U.K. merchant, the purchase will be made in GBP. If a customer places an order with a U.S. merchant, the purchase will be made in USD.

Note that this does not prevent a UK merchant from selling to US buyers.
If a US customer with a USD account and a USD credit card buys from a UK merchant with a GBP account the US buyer will be charged in GBP on his USD credit card. The buyer's bank will do the conversion (and probably add a fee).
The US buyer will be shown an approximate price in USD on the checkout page (approximate because Google can't know the final charge given currency fluctuation and bank fees)

As Google rolls out this service over Europe, the situation will be similar as for US/UK right now. The UK merchant would not receive payments in EUR, but in GBP. The European buyer will be charged in GBP, but her bank would convert the charge to EUR (again, probably charging a fee). For this to work, the buyer needs a credit card that accepts charges in foreign currencies.
Why, if you are in the UK, would you want to receive your payments in EUR?
The majority of my customers will be European and therefore using Euros - my pricing will be shown in Euros so to avoid confusion, want the customer debited in Euros - I would take the hit if the exchange rate is bad.
I am looking at checkout as an alternative to PayPal, but if this option is not going to be available in checkout, then I don't think I will be able to use it. In PayPal you can choose what currency your account will be in. Then when you transfer the money out of the PayPal account, your bank converts it to your account currency.

I understand the restriction, but that unfortunately means that I'll have to stick to PayPal as we bill all US customers in USD and Eurozone customers (Germany, France, Ireland etc) in euros.
I too sell in Euros using Paypal but until google checkout can offer euro currency I am unable to transfer or take advantage of the adwords offset. Can someone tell us when G checkout will offer euro currency to UK adword advertisers or when the checkout system will be available in Spain? Also will we be credited for all previous adword bills to offset the checkout fees?
What isn't clear is that if we have multiple stores can we accept currency relevant to each of the stores? We can't at present sign up for Google Checkout US becuase this is not enabled. However, we do on our site take payment in multi currency depending on where in the world you are we accept payments in EURO, USD, and GBP. So can we also integrate Google checkout for USD and GBP?
