I have seen the Google Calendar Sync tool for Windows/Outlook, and
also Mac OS X 10.5 now has built-in Google Contacts Sync.
Therefore I think it would be great to have Google Calendar also Sync
with iCal rather than requiring a third-party application.
Additionally I would very much like to see Over The Air sync of Google
Calendar (also Contacts, Mail, and maybe oven Docs) to mobile devices,
specifically the iPhone.
The iPhone supports push mail from Yahoo, and soon push Calendar and
Contacts from both Microsoft Exchange and the new Apple Mobile.Me
service which is a very compelling platform on which to maintain my on-
line digital world (even though their is a small cost attached).
However I would much prefer to continue using the Google Mail,
Contacts, Docs and Calendar products as the centre of my digital world
and I hope these products ca evolve to offer such compelling OTA sync
capability in the future, and maybe supporting other mobile platforms
such as Symbian, Windows Mobile and Android of course!
Push Email/Calendar/Contacts for Google Apps would be the best thing
in the universe. Specifically support for the iPhone would be awesome.
I can see it being (at first) only a feature that Google Apps for Your
Domain would get, then rolled out to the rest later.

+500 to that. Currently i own an Mobile Me account but performance is
really slowwwww. I would really enjoy to continue using Google Mail as
my primary mailbox!

I would love OTA google apps PUSH sync to the iPhone. I don't want
another email address from mobileme and setting up a hosted exchange
server is what I wanted to avoid when I signed up for google apps and
moved my domain.
If mobileme offered domain parking/hosting, I would be there despite
the performance complaints, just to get push email, calendar, and
contacts. $149 per year for a group account isn't unreasonable.

I cry myself to sleep at night because I bought MobileMe. I am not
technologically savvy and thought it would solve my problems...que the
fiddles. Essentially, I bought server space, another email account,
and a crappy web app to manage it.
It's really simple: I want one web app that will manage all of my
email accounts so I can access them online, on my PC, on my Mac, or on
my iPhone. I also want to be able to send mail using those seperate
accounts through one interface. Oh, and calendars...it can't be that
complicated....IT ALL HAS TO BE SYNC.

Just to bump this topic up the front (if there is one, I am new here).
Gmail IMAP support with Apple Mail is wonderful. If there is a way to
make that same effect with Calendar, it would be a lifesaver.
Keep up the great work Google! You and Apple make one hell of a team.

it would be great if Google did this. If they combine all the services
together, they could make a free (and popular) competitor to Mobile
Me.

That is now available - and it doesn't require an additional app.
Google has added CalDAV to their Calendar. CalDAV is the system though
which iCal syncs with any Calendar Server.
The sync is two way and mostly real-time.

The only problem now is that the iCal application on the iPhone will
not let you add events to any of the CalDAV accounts. So to sync them
up with Google I have to create an event in my Home calendar, then
drag it to my CalDav calendar in my laptop iCal before syncing with
Google.
That's a sure recipe for disaster as I know I'll miss something. The
solution is SO CLOSE! Hope they can add all the calendars as options
on the phone.

I have a question. I have two calendars on one Google account. I just
got Caldav to work, to sync from Gcal to Ical and vice versa, but it
only syncs the primary calendar on gcal. Is there a way I can add the
secondary gcalendar to Ical sync as well?

I totally agree with you. I really thought that we had the job done
when they came out with CalDAV support for iCal...then, I synced my
iPhone to my iMac...I checked the CalDAV calendar so that it would
sync, and I'll be damned if I couldn't add events to it. I don't get
it...soooooo close. There may be some agreement between Apple and
Google though...they are such buddies, which is great, that Google has
agreed not to provide a free service that MobileMe charges for...I
mean, you can already sync Google contacts, google mail, and now
calendars (somewhat)...aside from including web hosting in that, it's
basically free MobileMe...I dunno...I was never a .Mac owner, so I
don't know the other benefits...
Please, Google, help me out...I'm not afraid to spend $25 on BusySync,
but the day I do, they're gonna fully support the crap for
free...that'll burn me up pretty good...
