I couldn't find a better place to put this but this is a deal breaker for me. Seriously, if I cannot sync up to Outlook at work, then the Google calendar is just another online calendar that I'm trying out.
Cmon guys, you know how big of a deal this is for everyone!
I was able to export my Outlook calendar and import to Google Calendar today.
BUT, my recurring events are all off by 3 hours. That is, their time in Google Calendar is 3 hours later than their time in Outlook. One-of-a-kind events imported fine.
Further, I tried the import using Windows CSV. There were two problems. First, the CSV format does not preserve recurring appointments. Second, the appointment times get mangled; 13:30 becomes 3:30pm and 15:00 becomes 5:00 pm.
Agreed. I'm forced to use Outlook at work so I use it for everything. It's great that I can import my Outlook calender to Google but unless there's some way I can easily sync the two, the Google calender is just an interesting toy.
I also agree -wholehearted without outlook sync the calendar is ultimately flawed for most serious users. But with it....great.... I don't have to be at work to check my calender - looking forward to seeing this implemented.
The truth of the matter is that more and more people are using multiple devices to enter information into calendars. For example, I use my phone/pda most of the time, other times I do it straight into outlook. The beauty of all of this is that synchronization is automated. The problem is bigger than just synchronization between outlook and Google calendar when we delve into iCal and other open calendar standards. What is necessary is a widely used open standard where one can tell programs, such as outlook, to synchronize with XYZ server via WebDAV, ftp, or other. Near future? Who knows...
