Looks like Groups created via API have limited functionality.
Such groups have message archiving disabled by default, so they do not display list of topics and posts in the web-interface.
On attempt to enable message archiving in group settings, control panel throws an error.

I wonder if there is a way to either create a new Group via API which would have message archiving enabled, or activate it later on?

Thanks,
Aleh

Aleh,

Thanks for your question. We are aware of the limitations in the existing Groups API. As we have indicated a few times recently on this forum, we're already working on a new API to manage group settings. I don't have an ETA right away, but you will be able to do a lot more with groups soon.

I have a lot of groups to set up and just started writing some code to create them and to assign members.  Since there are "limitations" in the current Groups API, am I better off just starting to create them "manually?"

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike:

The Provisioning API currently allows you to create Groups and add or remove group members, so you should have no problem using it for this purpose.

The issues earlier on this thread refer to the fact that there are limited Group access control options in the Provisioning API. For example, currently the API only allows developers to designate one of four email subscription options for groups... See this page for current available email permission options when creating groups with the Provisioning API:

Thanks,
Michael
