App Engine URL constraints = not cool

It's very annoying that App Engine instances cant' use their own
domain without having that domain in its own separate apps account. I
have one google apps account (foo.com for example) and I want to host
a site at bar.com -- currently I cannot, I can only host it at
bar.foo.com or create a new apps account...

This is a pretty severe limitation. I should be able to enter
arbitrary domain names and aliases associated with any particular apps
account.

Why not just make another apps account?

I'm guessing this restriction exists because they need to authenticate
who owns which domain (which they're already doing with google apps
anyway).

This seems like the wrong way of doing things (IMHO) -- I already have
my one apps account setup -- why should I spawn off a separate account
for each App Engine URL I want to use... Also it would mean waiting in
line for the invites all over again -- I guess -- which is killer.

Couldn't Google just do that with my existing Apps account -- ie
associate my existing apps account with my new App Engine domain --
that's a very simple relationship...

You can add domain aliases to your apps account. Would that work for
you?

It's under Domain settings > Domain names

I added the Domain Alias, but the App Engine won't let me add that
alias as an extra url...

Hello.

Domain aliases are currently not supported, but it is a feature that
could
be added in the future. Please take a look at
http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/list

If the feature has already been requested, feel free to star it.
Otherwise,
please do not hesitate to add it to the list.

Best regards,

Jens
