I have a question. Please forgive me if it has already been covered.

I have a domain name kindlemap.net. I was able to map www.kindlemap.net
to point to the app. But I can't figure out how to get the plain
kindlemap.net to go there (http://kindlemap.net). The domain name is
at GoDaddy and I changed the www CNAME record to point to
ghs.google.com and that works.

The question I have is, is it possible to just use the plain domain
name. If if so how does one map the domain name at GoDaddy?

As you can see www.kindlemap.net works but http://kindlemap.net goes
to GoDaddy.

Thanks,
Al

It is not possible - naked domains are not allowed. What you can do is
to use a redirect service from Godaddy, so that people accessing
http://kindlemap.net will be redirected to http://www.kindlemap.net .

On the happy side, www is good! See: http://www.www.extra-www.org/

I have exactly the same problem.

www.lanovaz.org and daniel.lanovaz.org are CNAME records and work just
fine.

Network Solutions DNS editor doesn't allow me to make a CNAME record
for lanovaz.org; it requires an IP address.

Needless to say http://lanovaz.org does not go to my App Engine
instance but http://www.lanovaz.org and http://daniel.lanovaz.org does
(any subdomain of lanovaz.org).

Is it impossible to map the root domain to Google Apps or Google App
Engine instances? It appears so.

It is. You can't map a naked domain to a CNAME. You need to set a
redirect from the naked domain to the non-naked domain using services
from your dns provider or others.
