How can I find the default task list?

There seems to be no API to find the "default" task list (the one you
cannot delete in Google Tasks on web browser).. am I missing
something?

There is a constant value supported for the tasklist ID:

GTLQueryTasks *query = [GTLQueryTasks queryForTasksListWithTasklist:@
"@default"];

This is documented at
http://code.google.com/apis/tasks/v1/using.html#retrieving_tasks
