First, thanks again for getting this together, Tony. I had a great
time, and it sounded like everyone else did too.

The broad consensus at my end of the table seemed to be that a low-key
dinner would be the best way to go--nothing too high-end or time-
consuming. Here are some ideas I had:

* Henry's Hunan: http://www.henryshunanrestaurant.com/
* Turtle Tower (really good pho): http://www.yelp.com/biz/turtle-tower-restaurant-san-francisco
* Shalimar: http://www.shalimarsf.com/jones_menu.html

Any other suggestions?

Oh, also, Brenda's is the name of the breakfast place I mentioned.
Like I said, the lines can be enormous, but the food is delicious:
http://www.frenchsoulfood.com/ .

Any other ideas? Post your thoughts and we'll figure something out.

I have been to turtle tower (vietnamese) and shalimar (indian) both are good. I have heard about Brenda's and i hear it is always full. Another vietnamese place i recommend is Pho Tan Hoa. I think their pho is much better than TT. Tulan is great for spring rolls. I also recommend  Borobudur (indonesian), Assab Eritrea (ethiopian), Ryoko and Sanraku. (both Japanese). Farmer Brown is good for Southern food.

Lots of good ideas! I've only eaten Ethiopian food a couple times. It
was interesting to try the "eating with your hands" thing, I admit I
initially had a Western aversion to that, but enjoyed it after I "let
my hair down" so to speak. I love good Southern food, especially if it
has a Cajun or Creole flavor to it. And I'm definitely about due for a
good bowl of pho. Yum!

I've uploaded a new version of the image I first found for the group
(a lobster made of fruit) that has the group name, URL and email
address, in case anyone wants an easy way to invite anyone else who
may be interested. I'm sure we'll have a somewhat fluctuating
membership. I was also thinking if we are going to meet up in
December, it might be fun to do something holiday-themed. (Whether
that be Christmas or otherwise...) As much as I am open-minded and
enthusiastic about cuisines all over the world, I'm a Midwest boy at
heart and love this season, even when it errs on the side of excess
(I'm looking at you, Macy's!) I'm not going anywhere for Christmas -
my family is divided between Maui and northern Minnesota (!) and I
won't be getting back to either place next month, so if anyone wants
to get together, even just for a sip of eggnog and some candied yams
(I jest! Or do I?), I might be into it, depending on my wildly varying
work schedule.
Anyway, talk to y'all soon.

No, some moron with the charming handle of "CZZCZC" is spamming us. I've marked both messages as such, so Google's automated spam-clearing engines should take care of the rest.

Tony, is there anything more they let you do as the group owner?

Jeezus, sorry about that, I just now saw the post. Definitely not in "Good Taste." I closed the Discussion, reported it as spam and banned that user. I couldn't find a way to delete the thread entirely, though. I'll look into that.

The seething underbelly of the internets...

I haven't had time to plan anything...working full time, commuting in from Oakland every day, plus having to get a new bike, phone, ID, and trying to find an affordable new place to live in The City so I can get out of Oakland are consuming all my energy at the moment. I may have to leave this be until January, unfortunately.
