Hello All,

Anyone who has installed Debian lately ... do I need the who disk set to install.

I went to download an ISO to install and there are a ton of dvd's in the disk set.

Do I need them all or just the first?

If you have a network connection available to you during the installation, you most likely are going to want to do a network install:

The "Small CD" images work great.

In case you're using a NIC with dynamically loaded firmware that's not open source (many wireless cards), you will need to have the firmware available via a usb stick or something so that the installer can load it.  I think there are some unofficial netinst CDs out there that have the firmwares included.

Oh and if you choose to go with the full CDs .... most every thing you need for a standard installation is going to be on the first CD, they are sorted by use, and you can always apt-get the more obscure stuff once you're done.

With debian I always install the minimum possible during the installation and then add whatever I need with apt-get ... just my style though.

Thanks for that.  I will try to net install route first.  Would the net install route work over wireless?

Will be doing on a laptop that ins't close to my router without being a pain.

Yeah I do it over wireless all the time, as I said you may need to externally load firmware.

Thanks for helping reintroduce me to Debian guys.  Falling in love with Linux
all over again.  For those of you who are tired of Unity and Ubuntu.  Come back
to Debian.  You will not be disappointed.

So I'm not the token Fedora guy anymore?

Mostly kidding... Wayne installed Fedora 15 on his laptop a while ago
so I haven't been the token Fedora guy in a while :)

I'm now running F14 on my MythTV box, F15 on my desktop and the wife's
laptop, and F16 RC2 on my laptop.
