Golf Pad Beta version 20.0.14 released!

• UI fixes for course editing
• Applied shots exclusion to club recommendations properly
• Restored the option to include/exclude shot from statistics in shot list

Hello all,  wanted to start out that I am a long time user 9 years now and still love the program.  Let the community know if you like my suggestions. My apologies up front for the length of the email, but I am a heavy user and really want to improve the app.  Using Samsung Galaxy S23+ phone.

Positives on the update:

1) Love the change to the aiming circle not being right under your finger.  Great update.

2) double tap zooming works better than before.  (was too sensitive before)

areas of improvment

1) Number/text on the top scorecard is smaller and different than before.  Difficult to read on the phone.  Please make them bigger, like previous version.

2)Please put the mark flag on the bottom of the main page sceen. It really sucks to have to go into a menu for someing you use on every hole. attache pic.

3)When zooming in on the course the GPS distances for both the distance to the shot and from the green don't move with the screen zoom.  So you can't see them when zoomed in.  See attached pic.

3) when you go in to you mark shot screen and try to mark the putting location, (never in the correct spot due to phone GPS accuracy I guess) the default fairway view comes and you need to zoom into the green every time.  Please make that view the green view default as putter is only being used on and around the green.  Same for after the round when correcting putting locations. (It works properly for the flag position)

4) after the round looking at statistics, the shot for shot detailed strokes gained view doesn't work anymore.  you only get the entire round info. 

5) When looking at the statistics there isn't a column for your current round stats to compare to your overall rounds anymore.  this goes for every statisical category ( overview, strokes gained, clubs, fairways, overall scoring, par3, Par4 Par5 scoring)

6) The automatic shot location doesn't seem to recognize bunkers.

7)After a certain time, the phone locks the screen, and it makes you log in with fingerprint.  Previous version didn't do that.  Sometimes you can slide the app ovepen from bottom to top but rarely.

8) recent this year, in the US the program will no longer calculate handicapp, likely due to the partnership with the USGA.  was nice to have a handicapp calculator without having to pay for another membership.

 

Keep up the good work and improvements to the app!  Still the best app our there!

Hi all, first time responder here as only just started using Golf Pad having moved across from several other apps since taking up golf again but how many users here also use a smart watch (esp latest Samsung models) and does the Beta impact/ purposefully change functionality there too or is only the phone app that changes?

Hi Adam,

No sure if it helps but my watch (an old Samsung Active 2) has stopped working since moving to beta and this recent update.

I havent't tried switching back to the non-beta version to see if it's the update or something else.

Yes, this beta also includes changes to the watch companion app.

I've been using Golfpad with Samsung Galaxy watches for several years and it works great with the watch. Currently I'm using a galaxy watch 6. One tip is after starting your round, once you see the yardage display put the watch in airplane mode. Then it will use the watch's GPS to give accurate readings if the phone is in the cart and you're away from the cart. When you finish the round turn airplane mode off and your data will transfer from the watch to the cellphone app.

A second tip is that I changed the double press on the watch to golfpad, so if the buttons are accidentally pressed it's easier to get back to the golfpad display.

Played a round yesterday with beta version 20.0.16 on my galaxy watch 6 paired with a Samsung Z-Flip 6 phone. Watch in Airplane mode.

Other than a sluggish feel, every worked well. When you choose clubs, undo, or wake to check yardage it takes about 2-3 times longer than the pre-beta stable version to act. 

I really like the pages format instead of continuous scroll the old versions had. This is a nice improvement. 

Is removal of "sand wedge from sand" club option on the watch an oversight?

Just wondering, are the dots in the hole view showing your handicap removed on purpose? Thats very important to me when playing handicap rounds. Hope to get it back soon!

Jari and Rex - thank you for the great feedback! Yes, the watch app went through a major refresh in the Beta release. The handicap dots and SW from sand will be restored in the next update. Also will look into slow UI responsiveness. Please keep these comments coming! 

Tizen-based watches (Galaxy Watch 3 and earlier) are not supported in Beta. Please switch to the production version if you have one of those watches or Golf Pad LINK.
