Hi quarqd users,

I've updated the quarqd README with more detailed installation
instructions for OS X and the Garmin and Sparkfun ANT sticks.

http://opensource.quarq.us/quarqd/README.txt

Thanks to Mark Liversedge and Justin Knotzke for loaning me shell
access to test these sticks with OS X.

Good stuff. However, opensource.quarq.us is a bit lacking
in ,err, open source, or even source. Any update on that
front?

Mark will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure quarqd can't be
open sourced on account of an NDA with the Ant+ Sport people.

Right.  http://opensource.quarq.us contains two projects, neither of
which can be open-sourced.  Irony maybe, or just poor naming.

Cinqo was supposed to be open source, apart from the ANT library (due
to the ridiculous dynastream NDA). Anyway, the site does contain the
word "opensource". Surely that justifies having a bit of source code
somewhere, maybe?

Maybe the URL isn't well named, but I don't think Quarq is under any obligation to offer up OSS when they our bound to an licence agreement with ANT.

If anything, I'd argue that Quarq has gone out of their way to make use of the ANT protocol in a free (as in beer) manner.

I think we need to point at the ANT+ people in hopes that they open up their API's at least for people who just want to receive ANT data. I've already had that discussion with them without much luck.

I didn't say they were. They did say qranium (not cinqo sorry) was going
to be open source at some point though.

It will be, but remember that the Qranium code was never finished. GC
realtime mode is already similar in capability, so if you are wanting
to hack on something, that may be the better choice.

Mark,

Thanks for the update. I've had luck getting the my machine (mac
10.5) to recognize the Garmin ant stick using either the garmin
drivers or the ones from SiLabs.

I've set up .quarqd_config as you suggested.

Now I'm a bit confused as to where to go next.

If i run quarqd I get the following:
Sending 0xa4 0x01 0x4a 0x00 0x..
Sending 0xa4 0x09 0x46 0x01 0x.. 0x.. 0x.. 0x.. 0x.. 0x.. 0x.. 0x..
0x..
unknown channel event 0x46

but nothing else. I just got my CinQo and don't have a head unit so
I can't be sure that it is transmitting.

Anyone (errr Mark R., Justin, Mark L.) wanna shed some light to
getting up and running in either quarqd or realtime mode in GC.
FWIW i was not able to detect any devices from within GC.

Thanks,
Jamie

Ok, with quarqd running, open a new terminal window and "telnet localhost 8168"

Now you are in an interactive session with quarqd, using pseudo-HTTP
requests and XML responses.

To look for a power meter, type "X-set-channel: 0p" and press enter.
If one is found, after a few seconds a SensorFound and then power
messages will start scrolling past.

To see what the Ant channels are doing, type "X-list-channels:" and press enter.

Mark, Thanks for the info. I was not sure how to "open a
connection", using telnet worked.

I can communicate with the CinQo just fine now.

I suppose the next step is me getting it paired in GC. This is what
i found via a little trial and error.

1. Start quarqd ( thought it might get called by GC but apparently
not)

2. launch GC

3. under preferences/devices select ant+ via quarqd
enter a device name (e.g. CinQo)
for the hostname and port enter:
localhost:8168 (or whatever port you entered in your .quarqd_config file)

4. click on the pair button. if your device is in range it should
search for a while enter the antid(s) automatically (e.g. 312p).
After an initial pairing search i get a second searching box that
never progresses. Just abort scan and things should be fine. You
can also enter the antid (or multiple id's) manually, that is if you
know them or found them using quarqd and telnet as justin/mark has
suggested.

5. click the add button at the top

6. save prefs

7. go to realtime and try it out.

I get it to show data but when i click stop or pause it crashes.
I'll report more on this later.

Thanks for the help.

You just found both bugs ! ;-)

I have a fix and I am testing it out.. But testing it fully requires riding since it have to also test dropped channels, etc.

I can send you a patch Jamie that fixes the above if you like. But there's another issue that's nagging me.

When the user hits pause or stop, I don't re-init the channel.. I'm working on that now. But the crash and that dialog box problem has been fixed.

Let me know if you'd like to try the patch.
