What’s the story behind 'Anjali (80+) meets Chief Minister'

I know there is a law banning children working below the age of 16, similarly,

is there any law banning elderly (in their 80s) doing manual jobs such
as dish washing?

If not, please Mr. Parrikar do something in this matter too, for your
are the ‘hope’ of the people of all walks of life.

Now, coming back to Anjani (80+) meeting Chief Minister

What’s the real story behind it?

Why she is still working as a dishwasher in the City? Who is her employer?

Why DSS pension of Rs.1000pm (now Rs.2000) denied to her?

Why her local BJP MLA or the Sarpanch (Siolim Dando) did not do
anything about it despite she visiting them several times in this
matter?

It’s really disgusting to know that the society, family, politicians
etc forced her to work for her living even at this very old wrinkled
age.

Just look at her and her face!

Or is there anything that we are not aware of?

Hope the press/media keep us updated on this very delicate issue

Looks like whoever arranged her to meet CM at his Car in the city,
also arranged press and media
as the news with pics flashed on all English dailies (except NT) and

TV channel talk of 2001 ‘Nayak’ film etc

5th April 2012, Panjim

Reported:

Travelling from Dando Siolim to Panjim every day to work as dish washer.

No DSS pension granted despite visiting local BJP MLA and Sarpanch
several times.

Anjali also worked in the offices of former Chief Ministers Dayanand
Bandodkar and Shashikala Kakodkar as aweeper.

Living with her daughter in law and grand son?

This all natak set up by one street side lady vendor who sits outside BOI Panjim. The State can expect to witness many more natkas of this kind.

You are right Soter, we did see her same place at the bank entrance,
close to Cafe Prakash or Cecol

All this for cheap publicity?

How one can be so low?

No, not that the old lady is a fake. The lady does wash dishes at a restaurant but not because the owner wants her to. She tells people that she walks from siolim to Panjim every day because her family is troubling her at home. The story in Siolim is something else. Some people survive only by complicating their life and using it to seek sympathy. Parrikar should have contacted her MLA to ascertain the facts.

This Anjali cannot be blamed. From what news I got, one of the lady vendor (name withheld) known to be close to Parrikar incited her to meet Parrikar and that he would help her. Anjali would not know on her own that Prrikar was in mines and industries that day.

natak? if that was a natak than anjani (not anjali) would have blamed
digambar kamat government not Dayanand Mandrekar, who is BJP legislator. And
someone things that she is dong natak than she works next to cafe prakash,
anyone can go and check. And what cheap publicity, when a person does not
get two time meal, can anyone think of cameras and getting picture on
newspapers?

Sad!

I did ask a lady vendor if they knew anything of Anjali meeting
Parrikar, pic on newspaper etc, she said no, she even denied knowning
parrikar. Half an hour later, I returned back and I saw Anjali
sitting very next to her (selling Bananas/ Zaam etc).

why they deny knowing Parrikar?
Kuch to hai..

'Anjali seeking cheap publicity?' How one can even think in that way?
Can't we see that besides Anjali and Parrikar in the pic, there is a
third force who try to depict Parrikar as god or bollywood Nayak like
figure?
I mean they are the one giving cheap publicity

Very sad. I am shocked to read this sad debate on goajourno arising out of news reports of Anjani Shirodkar published in the local press. I fully support Rupesh Samant and feel really sorry for all those who have termed this entire episode as 'NATAK'. As Rupesh said "when a person (who has lost her husband and son) does not get two morsels of food a day, can anyone think of cameras and getting picture on newspapers?" Even if Anjani Shirodkar had to do any 'Natak' in reality just to meet Chief minister to avail DSS card, I don't think any responsible soul would have termed it as 'Natak'. In fact, he/she should have offered their help. As a citizen, Anjani Shirodkar has full right to meet Chief minister anywhere and anytime. She does'nt need any certificate from anybody to approach the head of the state. We always think and pretend to be responsible journalists and citizens...remember jounalism is not always a weapon to criticise...Journalism is a priviledge to work for the society..priviledge to work for the helpless people like Anjani Shirodkar. Think about it.

Come on Rupesh. How many years has Anjani been working near Cafe Prakash? Did the media not see her plight then? If she has completed 80 then from what age was she entitled to government dole? Is it that she was looked after under Digambar government and now Dayanand Mandrekar has deprived her of dole? A hungry person is too weak for any ego and arrogance. Can a hungry person travel from Siolim to Panjim and back for years together and that too at the age of 80? Has Rupesh not observed how she deals with people and demands things from them? Just because she blames Dayanand Mandrekar, does that become the truth? Could it not be that Mandrekar's opponents have instigated her to say some thing?

This debate is both amusing and sad. And alas, it's the state of Goa's
online political discourse today. This is not in reference to anyone
in particular but I'm writing it based on what I've read on
Goanet/Goajourno of late. Generally speaking, there are two kinds of
people who engage in internet debates.

First: People who know first-hand what they're talking about; they
spend a vast part of their day on the field, and they know the
situation better than most, even if they're not so vocal in the
opinion of it, since they prefer facts to speak for themselves.
They're on the street, they meet people, talk to them, investigate and
get stories.

Second: People who read news reports and comment on them. Usually,
they know little about what is happening, but they will write because
they have to write (nothing better to do?), perhaps to assert their
self-identified intellectual superiority. Since the Parrikar
government has taken over, especially, this tribe has increased. The
government may or may not be trying to clear the mess Goa is in; that
I don't know. But even when it does something admirable, the
'righteous' armchair brigade is at it, unleashing conspiracy theories
at will, attributing evil motives, etc.

Vishnu Surya Wagh has hinted at a revamp of Kala Academy. Henceforth,
I hope, in the future, the nataks go there, and stay there.

Reminder: These are just general observations, and are not targeted at
any particular person/persons.

Nigel

Nigel, what's wrong in debating? Remember this is a journo list... and I think this debate is in the right direction picking holes in the media's reportage of events and how the media, depending on who the beneficiary is, makes a ant-hill of a mole.
Reminds me of similar reportage about Parrikar in his previous stint as CM in 2000. One particular newspaper which had reporters "embedded" in Parrikar's entourage wherever he went then, had reported that 'Matka' had come to a grinding halt in the CM's regime. The report went on to give a blow-by-blow account of how Parrikar discovered, when he had stopped at the Ponda market for a limboo-soda, that Matka was flourishing in his Deputy CM and then Ponda MLA Ravi Naik's constituency. He then called his Man Friday in the Kakhi ranks - Karnail Singh - and ordered a crackdown on the number game, the paper reported.
One week later, Ponda ran out of Limboo-sodas and pot luck returned with a vengeance even as Parrikar continued in the CM's chair for another four years!!

Cheers!!

Ashley.

Ashley,
We can understand the reaction to criticism. Criticism and agitations were fine until March 6, 2012. As you have rightly recalled this phenomena had gripped the political period from 2000 to 2003. In 2004 there was sudden Parivartan and the Hero became Zero overnight. Remember those scribes at Azad maidan pretending to take shots at Manohar who was in GCCI? And with the recent budget doles and subsidies we can expect 'Zero Tolerance' to debates and criticism. Have you not noticed that the fly-by night action groups that had multiplied by the dozens and held a press conference  in the city practically every second day have just gone off the radar after the elections?  Probably they have nothing to complain about anymore in an era of Good Governance or have now retreated to Kala Academy with subsidised tariffs.
Now it is the honeymoon phase of Goa Shinning and Goa Cleansing, so just nothing can be expected to go wrong anywhere. The ugly casinos in Mandovi are to be replaced by state of the art ships shortly and we will have many great stories about such an achievement and comparisons to Venice. We witnessed it the last time in 2002 when Government officers in training programs took time out to enlighten the participants on how Panjim had become Lisbon courtesy .......
With malice to none.Yes, Nataks are to be kept within the close walls of Kala Academy. If one follows India's independence history this is exactly Congress culture in a new avatar (particularly Nehru who was intolerant to Congressmen remaining with the people to keep a check on government) .This is 'Elite Capture' and 'Totalitarian regime' as some are talking about.  Bringing Nataks on the street can only be proper in non-elite democratic political regimes. Now everything will just be conspiracy theories by 'armchair brigades' and 'rocking chair brigades' as in Modi land. Remember the Naxal conspiracy in Goa, don't you? But all this is only right when in opposition.
Viva parivartan!
