President Obama's recent proposal to cut Social Security benefits has been met with widespread anger and consternation. The president's proposal, known as "Chained CPI," would dramatically reduce benefits to both retirees and disabled veterans over time. It would also slowly but steadily raise taxes on parts of the working and middle class. Fortunately, one of Social Security's biggest champions in Congress, Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa, is leading an effort to put the Senate on record rejecting the president's proposed cuts to benefits. Sen. Harkin has introduced a "Sense of the Senate" resolution opposing "Chained CPI," but many senators have not co-sponsored it yet. Tell the Senate: Stand with Sen. Tom Harkin to reject cuts to Social Security benefits.
