I am trying to install gcc v2.8.1 on Solaris 2.5.1. I ftp, unzip, unat
the file. then run ./configure.
I get an error mesage that no cc or gcc found in $PATH.
Do I need a compiler to compile the compiler ? Obviously a chicken/egg
question but I cannot the only facing this and I could find no
resolution on the www.
Perhaps my only solution is to find a pre-compiled (eariler) version and
use that to compile the current version?

Yes sir ! I can't help U more than this about Solaris, but U firstly
need to get an egg, to have a chicken... :-)
Sincerely, Fabio.
And pre 2.8 compilers are available at:
http://smc.vnet.net/solaris_2.5.html
It doesn't eggsactly have what you need but close. :)
