VM and message-mode

I note that the VM manual states that it uses mail-mode, rather than message-mode for composing email.
I'm using Emacs 24, where message mode is the default, which means that a rash keystroke can send me into message-mode, and message mode is better supported than mail-mode.
I was thinking of trying to use message-mode with VM, but if that's A Bad Idea, please let me know. OTOH, if it is not ABI, any suggestions for how to use message mode would be appreciated. I would undertake to write up such suggestions for the VM manual.... more »

Question about behavior of vm-save-message

I was trying to experiment with some earlier advice (for which many thanks) that I should get Thunderbird-like behavior (hidden deleted messages) by using a virtual folder with the "undeleted" selector.
This seemed to work nicely, but then I had an oddity when I tried to save a message with "s" -- vm-save-message. When I did this in the original IMAP INBOX folder, I was prompted to save the message to an IMAP folder. This seemed to me to be the correct behavior.... more »

I looked into this briefly. I found this, like mutt, to be very
cumbersome with a framework where you have a large number of IMAP folders.
The problem is that when you operate on IMAP folders (e.g., you decide
you need to see/subscribe one that you haven't been subscribed to), it's
a very cumbersome process. You need to close your MUA and then start... more »

Unfortunately, it does make quite a bit of difference. Once it is an
official release, it goes into Linux distributions, and people get it by
doing routine updates. If things break for them, it would be quite
annoying.
Things were quite different when people made conscious decision to upgrade.... more »

I've been waiting to upgrade the Fedora package of VM until 8.2 is
declared released. After all, 8.2.0b is officially a beta, right?
But there are some issues with waiting, most recently illustrated by
the bug report [link]

vm-visit-imap-folder problem in 8.2.0b

I've been starting to use IMAP for my mail now, though I haven't
updated my vm-spool-files setup yet to use IMAP as my main INBOX.
Haven't quite decided how I want that to work. So now when I startup VM and do 'vm-visit-imap-folder' it doesn't ask
