I have Emacs configured to syntax-highlight by default in X, but it
doesn't highlight on console, and I was wondering if this is possible.
If it is, directions on how to go about doing it would be greatly
appreciated. thanks.

Emacs does not grok faces on a tty. XEmacs does, though.
Maybe Emacs will grok faces on a tty, too, sometime in the future.
