super key in Linux emacs remote from a Mac?

I'm stumped...
I'm running emacs 23.3.1 on Linux (RHE) from my Mac through a remote session using X11.
The left and right Option keys are mapped to Alt_L/R, which emacs picks up as Meta, which is fine. This is the same as running the native 23.x version on the Mac.
However, I can't figure out how to get the Command keys to send through X11. They're trapped by the OS. What's strange is that in the native emacs, they're not trapped and are interpreted as the super modifier key.
How can I can X11 to send and not trap the command keys?
What keycode does emacs map to super? Could I do some Xmodmap magic to make something else into super keys?

I poked around some more and played with xev. It's not the Mac or emacs - it's the Linux version of NXClient doing it!
