I have a client who has a medium-sized forum-style website with maybe
20-100 concurrent users. It is running on windows server / sql server with
a vbscript codebase (yay!).
He is having some pretty extreme performance issues which from our
conversations sound like a runaway codepath that locks up the server

It is referring to test case code. Essentially if it's on paper, you can't really go wrong at all!

I think the origin of our uncertainty about using digital tools is that
there is something on the web site about no user stories/test cases. Was
that referring to test case code? Because we already have some use cases
on paper.
So we can actually enter all our features and specs into a tracker now and

Great question. You're welcome to set that up beforehand. The rule to remember is "no digital assets used in production can be created beforehand." So any assets (code / images / content / etc) that you create before the start of the contest can not be used in the actual application (more or less, the minute you copy and paste something into the application, you've most likely broken the rule).

Has this been set up?
Although I would prefer to buy a copy of the ebook, I did find a PDF of the
book online. The book is not on the Safari Bookshelf which you get with
either ACM or IEEE Computer Society memberships.
