Never mind... I found it before the original message even hit the mail
list. The problem was in:
fd.write("%s %s %s\n", s1, s2, s3)
it should have been:
fd.write(u"%s %s %s\n", s1, s2, s3)
Note the 'u' at the front of the format string. What was happening was
that I was carefully insuring that all strings were utf8, then Python

That said, I'm having some trouble with Unicode that just does not make
sense, specifically UTF8, which is what Activities should be since they
are XML.

Hi Dave,

Yes, offering JSON response data is something we've discussed here at
Gnip, but it's not at the top of our list at this time. We'll be sure
to announce support for alternates to XML when we get close to
implementing them, though.

Bucket responses in different data structures

Hi again,

Are there any plans for Gnip to support different data structures for
bucket responses? I'm specifically thinking of JSON. There's no
particular reason for this other than I find JSON easier to work with
than XML. It also tends to be a bit more lightweight and is more
similar to a typical programming language data structure.

Yes, we have to update the schema mapping for this particular
publisher. Looks like you're one of the first to want to dive into
this one!

Hoss,

Our system is not optimized to work with single rule filters, and the
fact that you are not getting data is not a suprise, nor is it a
surprise that one of the filters works and one doesn't. The
predictability is not there and these small ruled filters may or may
not get data in them.

We've been focusing on making the infrastructure of our system solid
as well as making sure we're serving our customer's use cases well for
the time being. Thus, the UI for the developer app is not quite up to
par, we agree. We are working on a new UI and a lot of cool front end
features that will help with this.
