Subject: Zhuikov Cup Race in Duluth Saturday 2/18/12
Hi All (Again)
The Duluth Speedskating Club has decided to host the Zhuikov Cup again this year. This is a fun speedskating race held at Chester Bowl Recreational Area on the north end of Duluth. The event is named after Andre Zhuikov who is the Russian born coach for the Duluth Program. The event is held on a smaller size rink that the Duluth Club floods and maintains. The racing is pack style similar to what we do at the Oval. Generally the races are low key and have a fun emphasis. Often a few skaters from Thunderbay Canada also come to this as well as the younger skaters from Midway. Registration is around 10:AM. In the past there has been a potluck lunch and I have sent an email inquiring about the status of this. Races end in early afternoon so you have the option of driving up and back the same day or some families choose to stay in a hotel/motel and make a weekend of it. Novice families who have attended the last several years have overwhelmingly had a great time. There is a small trailer for a warming house and large pole garage with space heaters for eating. Adjacent to the rink are some great sledding hills that the kids take advantage of while they are there.
If you think you might be interested in attending can you please let me know, and how many people - (sibiling, aunts, cousins, etc) will be attending so I can give Duluth an approximate head count. I will post maps and I have attached directions to the rink.
