VLC Settings

When I watch a movie in VLC. I watch it is my extended display which is a LCD TV. A setting in VLC allows me to play my audio from the hdmi instead of my computer speakers.

However. When Gmote launches the java (vlc) it obviously does not follow the settings I entered into VLC. 

Does Gmote launch a different version of VLC? If yes. How do I change those settings?\

If no, why does it not follow the same settings I had in place.
