I kinda got VLC and WMP to work, but how exactly do you get other
media players like Media Player Classic and The KMPlayer to work? The
setting and configuration files are weird...

I'm using Vista by the way

Hi,

Currently, we really only have a good binding for VLC on windows. There is a significant amount of work involved in building a binding to a media player, so we've only had time to build 2 (vlc on windows and linux, itunes on mac). The windows media player binding was actually a very quick hack that involves sending known keyboard shortcuts to whatever application is in the foreground (for example, hitting control+p will pause / play the windows media player). We will be adding other media binding in the future, but in the mean time, if you want to use a different player, it might be possible for you to re-map the keyboard shortcuts in those programs to match the ones that are in windows media player, then have your computer automatically open media player classic by default when an mp3 is double clicked, and finally make sure to set the config file of gmote to point to windows media player (if all this was setup correctly, when you launch a file from the phone, it should automatically start the file in its default player (which in this case would be media player classic or kmplayer, depending on what you setup). The program would then send keyboard shortcuts such as ctrl + p which would be interpreted by the whatever player is in the foreground on your computer. It's pretty hacky, but this would appear to be the best solution until we are able to add binding for other media players.

Cheers,
Marc

I support the re-mapping strategy. I know foobar2000 can be mapped to
"global hotkeys" which capture specified keyboard combinations, even
when in the background. (Music only player, but I've only used gmote
for music anyways) But related question: is it possible for gmote to
send the multimedia keys? (The keyboard's extra play/pause, stop,
next, previous buttons) I am not sure what they are officially called,
but they've worked on all the players I've used in Windows.

Hi,

Gmote currently doesn't support sending the media keys (basically, java doesn't currently support APPCOMMAND_MEDIA type of commands since they are operating system specific). I am currently looking into a way to send these through other means as this has been on our todo list for quite some time. I will let you know once this has been done.

Cheers,
Marc

On the new update ver 2.0.1 there is no line in the
default_settings.txt for "Player" there is a supported_filetypes.txt
that maps all different file formats to their corresponding players. I
am trying to get DVDs to play on Windows Media Player but haven't had
any luck. I have tried inserting the "Player" line in
default_settings.txt but nothing changes. I have also tried editing
supported_filetypes.txt but I may have the syntax wrong; all I manage
is for gmote to crash. It seems the FAQ have not all been updated for
the new version or I am doing something wrong.
