[GMCnet] GMC rear end body parts

I live in Calgary and one of my coach's is a donor and is unable to be restored for Street use, so I would like to make a matching trailer to one of my other coach's
What I am looking for a complete rear shell for capping off the front of the trailer, I am looking for one close to Alberta Canada due to the size and cost of shipping or travel. If anyone can help me out it would be great.

Gordon (Tin Gerbil) just scrapped his coach. He is out on Vancouver Island. He waited ages for someone to take it away.

Shipping will be the issue, Do you have a price in mind for the rear cap, Is it still on the unit, Would you be willing to cut into 4 pieces and crate in a motorcycle crate? No glass just the cap needed

Jay,

This thread fired a synapse (and that can be very dangerous).
I once imported some specialized fiberglass parts from Calgary. (Please don't ask what they were.)

Why does this matter?

Because there must have been some industry there, and if there is, then there are suppliers and people that know what to do.
It is not at all difficult to create a mold for fiberglass parts. The only time it really gets tough is if you do not get a good enough coat of the correct release agent (only a two beer story).

You have one cap, you could use it to create a mold. You could plug the new mold to remove the taillight lumps and the rear window. That might be more expedient (and maybe cheaper) than having Mike remove the one he has, cut it up neatly, crate it and to ship to you.

More on the subject only if somebody cares.

This something we have talked about in great length,Sounds easier to make the mold and we do that on our race bikes but I would like to have the finshed interior parts.

how much will this trailer weigh? seems like a heavy load to pull with a GMC.

Thats a question on my mind as well, In the end what will it wiegh, Body will be cut back to about about 18 feet, no tanks no air on the roof minimal interior just finished walls, retains rear suspension, Toungue with surge brakes.
Any thoughts on the overall wieght anyone?

Gotta be lighter then what I pull now loaded with up to 18 race bikes:

I just looked and it is 1900 miles...hmmm.... The coach I have is certainly available (although there was some guy in Toledo, he hasn't gotten back to me yet). I don't have time to cut the rear end off for you (I'd work more on my own GMC if I did!). If you could come and cut it off, and get it back, then it would be feasible. You could certainly get all the interior and trim parts, plus the rear bumpers to mount on the front of your "trailer".

tongue weight will be an issue too. i think i heard somewhere that around 250 to 300Lb. is what you want but it may also be a % of total weight. anyway, tongue weight is all on the air bags. with full tanks, fuel and water that's asking a lot of the air bags.

More thoughts on the project this why we will be cutting it back to about 18 feet, fro mwhat I have heard so far, for every foot of trailer the axles must be back one inch. This includes the tongue length. This should give proper toungue weight in the end. As for overall weight.
Gordon's scap empty coach body with the bath module, all glass, no tanks, no engine frame, no bogies, no AC on the roof, no bumpers, weighs exactly 5342 lbs.
So my Transmode/Trailer in question will have no glass. No gens, no Air, Two end caps and just frame suspenion and shell,

Hey how about one of those big flex connectors that they have on city
busses. Make it a 42' two piece front wheel drive motorhome!

Perhaps a bit too ambitious.

Perhaps a bit too far but Phil Hernandez has one that is prime for
what you describe. If he can't get rid of it for this kind of
project, it is going for scrap aluminum. He is a pacific cruiser, CA.
