Hi

I think I remember seeing something about this before, but I just
wanted to double check.

I have some Google Bookmarks that are not available via the general
internet, because they point at local web servers, like http://sugar/SugarSuite/.

I add the Bookmark via the "Add GMarks(Bypass add bookmark window)".

I can see the Bookmark in the side window, and it works.

I then alter the label, using the right-click "Add New Labels..."
option. I go to the label, and can see the Bookmark and it still
works.

Then I select the Refresh option from the GMarks dropdown menu, and
the side scroll refreshes. The Bookmark is still there, however, the
link no longer works. When I look at the properties for the Bookmark,
the URL is about:blank.

Actually, just trying again, and I dont even need to do the new label
thing. Simply adding a bookmark, and then doing a refresh seems to
result in the bookmark "loosing" its URL.

If I go to Manage Online, the URL is there, but it seems to have had
its http:// stripped from the front.

If I add the Bookmark manually via the http://www.google.com/bookmarks/?hl=en
link, a similar thing happens. Is this Google seeking twisted justice
by not sending proper URLs for websites that it cant access?

I'm using GMarks 0.9.9 and FF3.0.1

Google strips these urls out of the rss feed GMarks uses to get the bookmarks. There is a workaround to make the url look like a normal url to Google. See this: http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Bookmarks/browse_frm/thread/7fbba161ffc1887d/935a81d23d91cac5?hl=en&lnk=gst&q=localhost#935a81d23d91cac5

I guess Google hasnt actually ever seen this as a problem.

Using the direct IP doesnt work so well with named virtual hosts.
Will look at using fully qualified domain names, where possible.

Google provides the bookmarks in 3 ways.
Method #1 is an xml feed. The problem with this is it doesn't include notes
Method #2 is an rss feed. The problem with this is it only includes http and https links (maybe a few others) and excludes links like you are having problems with.
Method #1 & #2 return 1000 items per request
Method #3 is a json feed from google notebook. The problem with this is it only includes 20 items per request. There is a num parameter in the query, but it ignores that. This means it would take a long time to download the bookmarks.
Method #4 uses the gdata notebook api and the unfiled notebook. The problem with this is it only works with publicly published notebooks. I don't believe that is the cas

There is no good way to get google bookmarks, I wish google could just fix that one problem for each method.
GMarks uses method #2 btw.
