some strange setting or something

All of a sudden, I have this strange blue icon box w/ the words Starred or not Starred sitting on top of my senders in my inbox and my sendees in my sent box.  the consequence of which is I can no longer read who is sending me emails.  How do I get rid of this annoying (more than annoying) blue icon box?  thanks

i got to update this.... it has affected my facebook page too, removing photos and icons at the top of the page.  this is now officially annoying

​The fact that this is affecting other sites should suggest that this is nothing to do with Gmail. Either you have installed a browser extension or possibly picked up some malware.​

Could you show us a screenshot of what you are seeing?  It might help us figure this out for you.  But, as Marko said, since it is happening on other sites it is probably not a Gmail issue.
