Gmail's new "always use https://" setting breaking Gmail Notifier?

With Google now giving users the option to always use https:// from within their settings page
          http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2008/07/making-security-easier.html
has anyone else had problems with Gmail Notifier no longer being able to successfully connect after changing that setting?  It would seem to be the case.

Previously, I had chosen to always use https:// via the Better Gmail 2 extension, which allowed the notifier to operate, but when it's chosen in the settings page it would seem to prevent that.

Do we need to await an update of the Notifier program, or is there a setting we can tweak in it somehow (or, of course, go back to using BG2, instead, which is what I've done for now)?

so far the notifier does not work together with the always https
setting. they've added this note to the official gmail plog on the new
feature.

I followed these steps (successfully) to modify notifier.exe, to check
for mail at http(s)://mail.google.com

BUT, I am still having issues with my Gmail application on my
BlackBerry, even though I set the app settings to check on a secure
connection (https)

Oh, good grief!  :-)  I haven't hex-edited anything in I don't know how long.  I might give it a try if I get bored later on.  Thanks.  (In the meantime, until there's an official notifier update I can leave the "use https" box in BGM2 checked.

...I should check out WikiHow more often, though, so thanks for that, too.  I keep forgetting it's out there.

There's something else that "broke" with the https selection on (besides Toolbar and Notifier), but I forget what it was ... I noticed it this morning.  Hmm.  Getting senile.

Just in followup, I received a response from Gmail regarding the always use https setting "breaking" Notifier. Though I've decided, for now, to continue to provide that functionality via the Better Gmail 2 FF extension, I'm including their response (below) with their workaround, FWIW.

Hello,

Thank you for your report. We are aware of this problem, and our engineers are working diligently to find a solution.

If you've set Gmail to always use https and you're using the Gmail Notifier on a PC, you'll need to install an additional file.

1. Visit http://google.com/mail/help/downloads/notifier_https.reg
2. Open the file.
3. Double click on the notifier_https.reg file.
4. Click 'yes' when you're asked to confirm if you want to add the information to the registry.
5. Restart the Notifier.

If you decide you no longer want to use the https setting, you'll need to install the other file included in the download to reset the Notifier. Use the same method as above with notifier_https_undo.reg.
