I know there is a setting somewhere to add my email addresses to my contact list automatically. I want to stop this from happening. Now I can't find where the setting is. Can someone please tell me where that is?
There is no setting... It's a standard feature, which cannot be turned off.
On the other hand, it should only add them to suggested contacts until you
send mail to them multiple times; then they'll go to "My Contacts" where
they remain on the list permanently.

Alan - Zack is quite correct, in that you cannot turn this action off.

Perhaps what you were looking for is on the 'drop-down Menu'
(from the arrowhead next to Reply on the upper right-hand side),
where - if the address doesn't already exist in All Contacts - it
offers "Add xxx to Contacts List".
Given that I was able to determine this by reference to a
previous e-mail I had received, I must conclude that addition of
new addresses doesn't always happen "automatically"!!
I'll try to figure out what's going on. The drop-down is more what I had in
mind. I just can't figure out how the email addresses got added to my
address book if they don't get added automatically. I wouldn't have
purposely put them there considering I don't even recall who they are.

I understand Zack. I still think it would be beneficial to be able to turn
this off. There are people I write to just one time and don't plan on
contacting in the future. It's not necessary for me to have their address I
don't think.

Agreed... I think that's why GMail has it on their frequent suggested
page... we can always hope, the more we click it, the more likely they'll
implement it.
