Modified Macros idea: URL shortener

A discussion on FriendFeed about a bit.ly sidebar gadget for Gmail
gave me the idea for Macros to have a keyboard shortcut for shortening
a URL. The service I'd prefer is tr.im, which has a pretty complete
API and can track statistics on shortened links.
Is this a reasonable addition to Macros or should I look into writing
my own script/gadget?
