Future mail: schedule an email to be sent at a later date

Would it be possible to add a function to send emails out on a future date?  For example, sometimes I want to send an email invitation to my group of friends, but I'd prefer to send it it in a week instead of immediately.  Or occasionally I want to send my husband a reminder email to do something when he's at work, but it's currently the weekend so I want him to get it on Monday.

So I imagine a feature where there would be a queue of emails waiting to be sent and I could also edit/delete those emails until their scheduled departure day.

When writing emails to people in different time-zones, this would be very useful. People have low-energy and high-energy times of day, and sometimes you want people to receive your email in a particular frame of mind (e.g. I've heard that if your boss is a man, asking for time off work is better to do towards the end of the day when his testosterone levels are lower and he's less likely to argue about it.)

Also, when I'm up late at night writing emails (say, 3am or 4am), and I'm planning to sleep until noon, I would like to maintain a pretence of normal sleeping function for professional reasons.

Come on Google, this feature is extremely useful and shouldn't be that hard to implement.
I have to say, I would use it every day almost.
I'm a student, but also work. The thing is, that people that receive an email at 23:50 or even 2:00 AM in the morning usually think that it is very informal. It would be great to schedule emails that I write on the night (When I have time to work) to be sent on the following morning. That way people would receive them when in the office and is much more formal. (And while I'm learning how to resolve multiple integrals)

The problem with boomerang and right inbox is that after sending 10 emails, you get the surprise that can't use it anymore (within a month) if you don't pay!

For users searching for a free add-on letting you send emails later, I found Streak on google chrome extensions, which means that firefox users or internet explorer users (or others) would have to search for a specific extension for their browser, not easy.

I still think that google should develop this feature as a "lab", which would mean a better integration a simplicity (Available on any PC you log in, Boomerang, Right inbox, Streak, and all add-ons alike have to be installed!!)

Excellent idea. There are times where I have a moment to compose an email, but won't have time to reply to it.  Saving it as a draft works when I don't end up with an interruption to my plans, but this idea is even so much better for all the reasons listed by the others in this forum.  Thanks!

Everyday I have to send an email for everyone in my company and it has to arrive at 7:00 next morning, I use Outlook just because of that if this was in Labs I will get rid of Outlook once and for all.

A quick search in the "Search for topics" box above, showed 577 requests for "Send Later" ...since 2008 (when this forum was created).

There are hundreds more, under a slightly different headings, like "Delay Sending" or "Scheduled email send" or "Programacion de envio" or "Email Scheduling" and so on.

Each of them representing at least 20 persons wanting that feature! So, altogether THOUSANDS of people have asked for it, but this is not a popularity contest :-(

That means you'll be spending MORE time on the Gmail page.

Whatever Google does, has one common purpose: Make us stay on their mail page a few seconds longer...or even minutes.

More time spent at their site...more $$$ the can charge their advertisers - who pay the bills.

They are here to make money (like most of us) and I do NOT blame them!
