How about a feature that lets you drag labels up and down the list
instead of having it in alphabetical order? That would be awesome!

Yes!
But why stop there? I think it should be possible to hide certain
labels. They would still be viewable on emails, but they wouldn't
show up in the labels list. This would let me make a whole slew of
new labels ("important" "family" "work" "semi-spam") along with
filters to apply them--WITHOUT clogging up my labels list and making
it unusable for normal navigation.
