I would like to keep messages in inbox and sent messages separate, not
in a long continuing document, how can I do this?
I would also sometimes print just one page of a particular mail, but
the print box allowes only to "print all". Do I really have to print
all four pages of a document, sent and received? Please help.
Thank you.

One way to do this: open a blank Word document. In your e-mail,
highlight the text you want to print, press ctrl (Control) C, then go
to the open document and press Ctrl V. This will place the text and/
or pictures that you want to print in the Word document. At this point
you can edit it for format and spelling. Then print it. I have done
this frequently.

If it's a forwarded message with a lot of >'s, press ctrl H. A
dialogue box will come up to replace. Enter ">" in the "find" line,
and click on the "replace with" line, but leave it empty. Press OK.

You are able to print a single email within a chain of emails already.
The arrow next to to the reply button on the right hand corner of
every message - click on this button and an print option is in there,
By selecting this you are only printing the one email. It does not
print anything before or after.

I've been advocating the ability to "split conversation" for some time
now. This would allow you to do what you suggest. The "conversations"
feature of gmail is both limited andlimiting. I'd also like to rename
the topics of OTHER people's email sent to me. That way I can group it
into a conversation if I want, or change the name according to my
preferences for organization (some of my co-workers are a bit lazy
with the titles of their emails). By being able to split and combine
conversations, you could print one, rename one, remove one, put
separate labels on separate emails WITHIN one conversation (right now
I have stars on different emails in a conversation, but only so many
stars mean so many things). Split conversation would allow you to also
mark ONE email within a convo as "mark us unread" instead of it always
making very email in that conversation unread.

Star me, so people will read this!

I also want a search feature "has:conversation" for conversations,
another one for "has:conversation6" meaning all conversations with
ONLY 6 emails, and another search feature "has:conversation6+" meaning
a search for all conversations with six or more emails (mine
included).
Star me if you like me.
