Dear GLUGers,

Lets initiate some FOSS projects and use GLUG as collaboration platform.

Our GLUG spans beyond the visible limits of planet, so we can see a nice collaboration between students, professionals and researchers.

I need your suggestions for the same.

Sir,I think it's a nice idea and we should go for it. It directly or
indirectly will benefit us (btech cs students) and even to others who
will be part of this.

thanking u,
ur sincerely,
Shashank Shekhar,
B.Tech CS (II) year,

Kindly suggest some projects which you people can initiate at your
pace and place.

We are eagerly looking forward to have second year students as active
GLUGers as I am soon going to be extinct and you people only will take
this movement forward.

Lets use this platform to connect the entire UP/UPTU/others students
and professionals and start working and collaborating online as if
this si a virtual software organisation.

Vivek Khurana, Satyaakam, Shakti Kannan, Gajendra Khanna,Sanjeev
Saini,Govind Raj,Narendra Sisiodia kindly provide your comments on
this.

* Project pre-requisites differ from domain to domain. So, it is best
judged on a case-by-case basis.

* The first step, however, is for everyone to use a distro of their
choice, use the software, tools, and make sure that they are
comfortable with it, and are able to independently install, work on
the system.

* There are some basic tasks that students, IMHO, must do before they
get started with any project work. Please refer:
http://shakthimaan.com/downloads/glv/presentations/gnubie.html

* Choice of programming language/tools is determined by the project,
and problem that needs to be solved or implemented.

I strongly suggest to have meetups to decide what type of
project student can do. I always blog so many ideas, there are hell
lot of possibilities and requirement in current time, student can work
on them. If students like to work, I am ready to mentor them on
projects. (ready to visit Merrut too).
I think, in first year itself, we must teach student that how
they can work collaboratively using code hosting website/services.
This will help a lot.
Student of Engineering college must put their project work under
FOSS license and host it on common website. This will increase student
participation on projects.
