It would be amazingly convenient if there was a plugin for iTunes or
even my iPhone (feature in the awesome GetGlue app!) that would
automatically checkin on the music i'm playing. It could fetch the
artist from the ID3 information and automatically check it in on my
account. Would something like that be possible to be built? It would
make GetGlue so much more meaningful and useful!
Is something like that already in development or would it even be
possible with the current API's around iTunes? I know it is possible
for third party apps to fetch info from iTunes but on the iPhone (iPod
app) as well?
To my knowledge nobody has yet built a iTunes auto-checkin plugin. I know that Last.fm's Scrobbler is really advanced, so I'm sure a similar capability could be doable with the iTunes and GetGlue API.

Great idea about the itunes auto check-in. I hope it would be
compatible with other music players as well since I'm not one who
relies heavily on itunes for my music.
I was also just thinking about this while I was in the car earlier.
I'm a new get glue user and when I'm looking at the music check-ins
through my phone, I was thinking maybe utilizing an app like shazam or
soundhound would make it easier for people to check in when listening
to music. If you are listening to it, it would even be more credible
if you're actually checking in though an app or software that
identifies the song/artist that you are listening to, rather than
having you manually search for the artist.
just my 2 cents.:)

This is definitely a great idea. I had the same thought the last time
I opened iTunes. Maybe if Ping updates to show what you're listening
to instead of just showing what you've bought, GetGlue could tie into
that. Right now, Ping is just annoying and useless for me but I
wouldn't mind using it if GetGlue could use Pint to Auto check-in
music.

GetGlue is at this time more oriented to the Artists (performers).
In sincerely think GetGlue should pay more attention to the track of
an album instead of the Artist.
You can like some tracks from one Artist but dislike others and most
of the systems like iTunes, Pandora, LastFm, and so on are calculating
your musical preferences on Artists, witch is wrong doing.
If track quotation in stead of Artist quotation would be enabled in
GetGlue this would be more precise and revolutionary.

Though not an itunes plugin, I've written a little webapp to like your
last.fm loved tracks on getglue. I like the idea of automatically
checking in to music as you are listening too, but while I was writing
this I became concerned that monitoring many last.fm users for
recently listened to tracks and sending checkins to getglue would
become very burdensome to the service and could clutter getglue
streams. I'm still open to adding this functionality but I'm fairly
new to getglue, maybe having 20 or 30 checkins per day while you are
listening to music wouldn't be too much?

Thanks for the ideas! I think that I'll be able to implement option #1
fairly easily into last2glue.com, but maybe on an hourly schedule
rather than daily.. it seems like most people would prefer something
more frequent when talking about checkins than just a once-per-day
update. I've done some tweeking since noticing the influx of new users
yesterday and believe I can handle both a loved tracks check every 5
minutes and an hourly check-in to recent artists (if listened to more
3+ times). I'll try to find some time in the next few days to get that
going..

Ok, I've done a little more work on last2glue.com, now there is an
option to check-in to artists if you have listened to them ore than 3
times in the past hour. Not sure how it will go over with other users,
it would be really cool to be able check-in as you scrobble.. but i
can't think of a good way to do that with last.fm's api.. maybe
someday if they push data like Yahoo's fireeagle api or something..

I think that I have something really close to what you are looking for
now. The last2glue.com seems to be working for Last.fm, but for iTunes
users like yourselves you can check out http://import2glue.com . From
there you can upload your iTunes library to post Likes to GetGlue for
artists in your library that you have given an average track rating of
3 stars or more. If you are a Windows iTunes user you will have the
option to download a small script that you can use to monitor your
iTunes listens and automatically check-in to every artist you listen
to. The script is currently pretty unpolished, but it seems to do the
job for now if you want to give it a shot! I recommend saving the
script to your desktop or someplace where you can find it easily, if
iTunes isn't running when you start the script it will launch, or you
can just run the script after iTunes is already running.. it will stay
running until you close iTunes. Its working for me, but please let me
know your results if you decide to try it.
