MARKETS

Asian Market is trading higher as Hang Seng was up by 1.31% and Nikkei 225 was up by 1.10% while Chinese markets were down by 0.20%. Asian stocks climbed, erasing yesterday’s losses, and the yen fell against all of its major peers before data forecast to show improving U.S. retail sales. Asian stocks advances amid optimism euro-area finance chiefs will complete a second Greek bailout and before a policy decision by the U.S. Fed Res today.Overnight US markets were up by 0.30%. SGX Nifty at 8:00AM was trading at 5440 with a gain of 60 points and is likely to trade between 5350 and 5450.

    ECONOMY:

* India’s second-quarter employment outlook: Manpower survey.

* Five Indian states to auction 26.1 billion rupees of 10-year bonds.

 

    EQUITY MOVERS:

* Bajaj Hindusthan Ltd. The nation’s biggest sugar producer will consider a proposal to merge two units with itself.

* Hathway Cable & Datacom Ltd. News Corp. sold its 17.3 percent stake in India’s largest cable-television operator to Providence

Equity Partners LLC and Macquaire Group Ltd.

* Steel Authority of India Ltd. The nation’s second- biggest producer raised prices of long-products used in construction by 2.7 percent

 from March 1.

* Thermax Ltd. The Indian maker of electricity generation equipment may be among bidders for a 5 megawatt geothermal project in north

India, Farooq Ahangar, assistant general manager at Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corp., the state-run agency overseeing

the auction, said .

* Wipro Ltd. A trust that manages the endowment supporting the Azim Premji Foundation will sell 35 million shares of India’s third-largest

software exporter to help expand the foundation’s activities.

 

OTHER NEWS:

* Lenders, which bought 130 billion rupees ($2.6 billion) in the final three months of last year, added 522 billion rupees this quarter,

taking holdings to 17.4 trillion rupees.

* The southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu plans to sell 60 billion rupees ($1.2 billion) of bonds this year to repay debt owed to

wind farms and other power producers for electricity sold to the grid.

* Water pollution from agriculture is costing billions of dollars a year in developed countries and is set to rise in China and India as farmers

race to increase food production, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said.

* Euro-area finance ministers signed off on a second Greek bailout, clearing the way for the first payment from the 130billion-euro

package ($170 billion) to be made this month.
