After two weeks of shutdown, the Congress finally managed to reopen the government. It also decided on suspending the validity of the federal debt ceiling. The continuing resolution insures proper functioning of the government until mid-January, while the debt ceiling will not be an issue before early February. In technical terms, this is called kicking the can down the road
