Hansen on runaway warming
[link] "In the long run [...] over centuries, we could actually get a runaway greenhouse effect, and then that's it for all the species on this planet [...]. [R]unaway greenhouse effect means once the planet gets warmer and warmer, then the oceans begin to evaporate.[...] [T]he... more »

AGW Scientifc Certainty
Some major uncertainties in climate science I suspect that claims about the certainty of climate science matter more for the perception of future risk, and for political reasons, than as a realistic statement of the state of the science. I believe that most scientists and engineers must understand something of the... more »

Reduction in Fossil Fuels
The Developed countries opposition to investment in finding alternatives to Petroleum and Coal is quite difficult to understand. US Gasoline consumption is about 9 million barrels per day. Current price is $ 70 per barrel, so the annual cost is 9 * 365 * 70 = $ 230 Billion. We have already seen price of $ 140 per barrel last year.... more »

Positive externalities
I'd like to put these up for discussion in two contexts: 1. The "guilt" question - How solid is the case for "climate debt" for past emissions? Should this debt be repaid to innocent developing countries suffering from "our" past and present emissions sins? 2. Clean technology development financing... more »

Interactive maps with data about climate warming
On the occasion of the Climate Change Conference 2009 in Copenhagen we have created a web infosystem. It contains interactive maps about co2 emissions, temperature increase and inundation risks - and that for each location on the globe. Here is the link: [link]... more »

The Climate Science Isn't Settled -- RICHARD S. LINDZEN -- WSJ
If there is anyone out there in Global Change Land still following this group, you might be interested in the op-ed piece that Dr. Richard Lindzen wrote for the Wall Street Journal on 30 November. [link] In it, one of his points is a repeat of his claim that there is a... more »

What will the pols say after we miss the deadline?
The leaders are saying that it's almost too late to avert a climate disaster. And, it is darn obvious that we are not going to act quickly. So, what are we going to be hearing in the future? Can look forward to a global consensus that we are going down the tubes? All leaders, except for a few right-wingers, will sound like Alastair... more »

Lindzen's new GRL paper on climate sensitivity
Many skeptic blogs are trumpeting the recent GRL paper by Lindzen and Choi that estimates climate sensitivity at about 0.5 C per CO2 doubling based on the claimed predominance of negative feedbacks to the original forcing. The main mechanism is asserted to be an increase in outgoing shortwave (SW) radiation. The estimate, based on... more »
