Seemed like a bit of a vague whine to me, but what do I know?

Maybe that's what inspired the bizarre film shown at the "Asahi Blue
Planet prize" awards a few years ago, that I blogged about here:

No, the best eco song ever is "Blabber 'N Smoke."

Well that lead to a few interesting minutes of googling but nothing that
convinced me of the validity of your statement. Any more hints?

Alas, I knew I should have used some more objective qualifier like
"highest charting". "Best" is a matter of taste. One particularly
grandiose performance of the song prompted an audience member (another
lesser known rock artist) to run up on stage at try to stop it.

Here's a fuller history of "Earth Song":

For those of us who can't decipher rock lyrics aurally, here is a
version with the lyrics displayed in real time:

Nah, the best just has to be Kansas' "Death of Mother Nature Suite":

With all due respect:

:P

Some of us from Rising Tide wrote this and sang it at an Australian
Labor Party office blockade ealry last year. Was great fun.

Here's a version by the London Symphony Orchestra that may be more to
your liking:

PS, google for .mp3, though the online versions are fairly low
quality.

These pieces are instrumental, not sung.
