This year the GLCC will be holding the first ever Camp Joy program. Camp Joy will be serving youth ages 7-14 who either come from LGBT families or who identify as LBGT themselves. This weeklong event will provide a service to the youth in hopes of showing they can have fun being who they are and increasing social confidence and enhance self esteem. There will be arts and crafts, “olympic games”, discussion groups, a talent show, snacks and a dance party, amongst other activities.
The week will culminate in an “Open House Youth Art Show”, inviting parents and friends of the campers to come and see what the kids have been doing all week. The youth that will serve as volunteer counselors will be the older youth that have already shown good leadership skills, that will be positive role models and have had previous experience in activities at the GLCC. Camp Joy will give LGBT parents the opportunity to place their children in an inclusive environment where they can enjoy the learning, fun and personal growth that comes from going to day camp. The cost of this weeklong day camp is $65.00/youth and includes a snacks and lunch every day, a t shirt and covers supplies.
