Good morning!!!
This email was to go out sooner, but we were hoping to confirm the date and time for our first rehearsal. With that being said, it's
tentative, that our first rehearsal will be January 25th, 2012 at Smithfield United Church (
http://www.facebook.com/SmithfieldUCC). 7:00P (or 1900 to our medical friends) Downbeat! Smithfield United will be our rehearsal home, every Wednesday evening from 7-9P. Please provide your own stand.
Our website will officially launch during next week. Here, you will be able to keep up with updates, formally sign up to access your sheet music, reference further information, help use it as formal advertising of our organization to potential new members or sponsors, and much more! All information entered will be kept private, unless otherwise clearly specified, and moderated by our board members (as working administration to the site).
PPWS's website was created by Derrick Baker at JDB Media (
http://www.jdbcomputers.com/). More information about him and this media company can be found on our website. Please think of him when needing any advertising logo, website, or computer needs. His rates are reasonable, he maintains GREAT direct communication, and does thorough work.
We aim to provide two concerts within a 6 month span (1 being a holiday concert). There will also be a marching parade band in association to the symphony, which is not a requirement of the symphony. The marching band will be involved in Pride Pittsburgh, Halloween Parade, Light Up night, and possibly up to 2 other pride parades (Cleveland, Philly, Capital Pride). Marching is something months away at this point, please direct questions of the symphony and as the details come together for June-November 2012, they will be provided.
In the meantime, as a growing organization, we are looking for help in various areas.
~We will be working out arrangements with Smithfield about percussion, however we are going to need a stand up section leader for percussion to help with things related to setup, assignments, and take down. Also things related percussion, we are hoping to put the word out on percussion that can be donated to the PPWS (a 501c3 organization). Smithfield's property is rather limited, and such things of timpani, chimes, snare, bass drum, gongs, tom toms, etc will need to be borrowed and rented on an 'as need' basis. Owning such instruments would be ideal!!!
~Music suggestions. The caliber of the symphony will be a growing and evolving process, especially in this first year...so please keep that in mind while making suggestions for this year's performance selections. All selections will be reviewed and discussed within the board.
~Sponsors. Do you work for a company who might be interested in donating to us...do you know of a company worth reaching out to? Please let us know. There will also be more information for this on our website.
~We know we are looking for French horns, a few string basses, and clarinets. Once membership through the site fills out, we will have a better grasp on who and how many are in what section.
~Anyone willing to help for 'whatevers' of the group. Maybe you have a wife, girlfriend, husband, lover, friend, or a friendly barista you flirt with at Cannon Coffee or Crazy Mocha that wants to help but doesn't play anything. We will always need some band-aides to help with ushers at concerts, water for parades, set up, take downs, and various other 'this n' thats' PPWS needs.
Oh...and
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!!
